Spring is in the air. Chicago hit a record 59 degrees on February 19 and the 22 ½ inches of snow that fell twelve days before has all but disappeared. Warm southern winds helped to buoy the spring spirit. It’s been a long time since Chicagoans have seen green on the ground. And, with the warmer weather comes that familiar itch to get a new spring handbag. My leather Dooney zippered pocket sac in saddle that I carried all winter, is in perfect condition but somehow the rich, warm brown leather just doesn’t make me feel spring-like. Fortunately, there are lots of new spring handbags to choose from…
While Hilary Radley is known for her outerwear, coats specifically, Hilary is gaining attention for her wonderful sense of style in handbags. Priced and designed for women’s everyday lifestyles, there are a lot of Hilary Radley handbags to choose from. The parachute nylon purses & totes are favorites due their light weight and great contrasting body and trim colors. The Hilary Radley Outfield Shoulder Bag comes in orange, sand and mustard colors… perfect, wonderfully subtle and a delightful change for spring. However, my absolute favorite is the Metric Hobo in Pewter (also available in Champagne). The exterior has a shiny finish and is accented with leather like trim. I love the shiny look and feel.
More bright additions to the spring handbag line are the handbags from Shiraleah. I’m not a huge fan of flowery bags, but the new Savannah Floral collection is fun, colorful and sure to get lots of looks. Here’s my favorite… the Shiraleah Savannah Wine Cooler Tote. Looking at the exterior, it looks like the perfect handbag for a spring or summer night. Yet, this bag is actually a tastefully designed women’s wine cooler. The Savannah Wine Cooler Tote comes complete with a fully insulated interior – to keep the wine at the perfect temperature, and exterior pockets for all of life’s essentials – aka: handbag stuff. This is not the traditional wine tote… I can envision carrying this women’s wine tote to Ravinia this summer. And, when I am not headed to Ravinia, and need a more traditional handbag from Shiraleah I’ll choose the Caribbean Blue Nylon Maris tote. I love the blue color…perfect for spring!
Last, but not least in my search for the perfect spring handbag is the leather small crossbody bag from ILI. This is a perfect, small leather bag for an evening on the town. Priced at $45.90 I can afford one in every color for every spring mood: purple, pink, pacific blue, bronze, champagne and the traditional black. I love the rosette or flower on the outside. It adds distinction and style to an otherwise classic, yet simple leather bag.
Of course, there is always the new Dooney & Bourke handbags for a perfect designer handbag for spring. The new Wavy Leather Grommet Shopper tote will catch lots of attention. And for the ‘real’ spring handbag, the Dooney & Bourke 1975 Signature Classic Satchel is the perfect choice. Elegant in white and adorned with the DB1975 signature logo, this is the classic look for spring. And, need a quick spring warm-up…open the bag and inside you’ll find a hot pink interior.
Spring may not really have hit Chicago yet, but I’m ready to go with my perfect choices for a new spring handbag. Look out spring, here I come and I’m bringing my friends called Hilary, Shiraleah, Dooney and Ili.
