The end of summer has arrived. By meteorological terms summer really ends in September at the autumnal equinox, but for kids, summer ends with the start of school. For many kids summer has already ended, but if you are lucky enough to start school after Labor Day, you are probably counting the days, hours and minutes until that dreaded school bell rings. For a parent, school brings a regime… schedule and discipline to the day and it also brings the usual scramble for the much needed school supplies. One of the biggest challenges is to find the perfect school backpack, messenger bag – and with the older high school students – a new laptop sleeve.
Kids are funny. The North Face backpack that served them so well last year (and it was hoped that this school backpack would last one more year), is no longer the hottest color or the hottest style of backpack. No. It doesn’t matter that the North Face Borealis that we had to have last year is in perfect condition. As my teenage daughter says, ‘that was so last year’. And, so the search begins for the perfect school backpack. For my daughter, it’s all about color, design and of course brand. Personally I like the North Face laptop backpacks for their style and
durability; but this year, the daughter choose the High Sierra Swerve Daypack backpack in the Whimsy Plaid Plum…translation: a really cool purple backpack with teal plaid accents. This purple High Sierra backpack is well padded and actually is a laptop backpack. It has the mandatory pocket for the latest music device (used to be an MP3 but now it’s an ipod) and of course a place for a water bottle.
The high school kid really needs a large, durable backpack as he carries about 125 lbs of school books back and forth. His choice: the North Face Yavapai, laptop backpack. Color doesn’t matter as long as it is a black blackpack or a deep blue backpack. On the off chance that he doesn’t really need to carry all those books back and forth, the kid also bought a Timbuk2 messenger bag… of course it had to be a basic black laptop messenger bag.
The youngest one opted for a Jansport Right Pack Navy backpack. This
is probably our best backpack buy this year… this Jansport backpack actually has suede leather on the bottom (think about how many times the backpack hits the floor or ground). This Jansport daypack is durable and functional. Perfect for the 12 year old school kid.
Even though everyone got a new school backpack, at least two of the kids also needed neoprene laptop sleeves. Good news – for around $20 you can get the perfect fit Ogio padded neoprene laptop sleeve – perfect for any size from a notebook computer or tablet, all the way up to the 17 inch laptop. Built NY also have neoprene laptop sleeves, in a wide range of shapes and sizes.
School may be upon us and fortunately, school daypacks and backpacks are on sale at Irv’s Luggage…. good luck in making the kids happy. I’ve reached the point where all I am needed for is my debit card! Shop away little ones.
